Men's Lacrosse Tops Swarthmore 12-5

SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Eastern Men's Lacrosse powered past the Swarthmore College Garnet 12-5 on Saturday as Grant Ferguson continued to light up the scoreboard.

Ferguson, a junior, notched five goals on six shots in Saturday's win. Through two games, he has 14 goals.

The Eagles, now 2-0, put up three goals in each quarter. Eastern gave up a goal 40 seconds into the game, but responded with six consecutive goals.

Ferguson tied the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal with 10:58 left in the first, and then Eric Waibel tallied two goals to put the Eagles up 3-1 by the end of the first quarter. Dave Darling scored with 9:36 left in the second, and Waibel and Ferguson closed out the 6-0 run with another goal a piece.

Swarthmore cut the deficit to 6-3 in the beginning of the third quarter, but Eastern again pulled away with a string of four goals.

Waibel finished with three goals and Darling contributed two goals. Blake Bennett and Tim Lamb each scored once, recording their first goals as Eagles.

Pat Groschan earned the win in the net, making six saves.

At the x, Matt Lee won 11-of-13 face-offs and Joe Palo took 5-of-8.

Eastern moves on to another local opponent Saturday, March 1, traveling to Haverford College for a 1 p.m. start.
