ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern University Volleyball advanced to the conference championship game for the 21st year running after a 3-0 win against Wilkes University on Wednesday night.
The Eagles only trailed on three different points through the whole match en route to the 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 win. Senior outside hitter Lauren Sproles led all players with 10 kills while hitting .421 for the match. Overall, the Eagles attacked at a .333 pace and limited the Colonels to .019 (26 kills, 24 errors, 105 attempts. Wilkes' Ally Paskas and Danica Benson each had a team-high eight kills for the Colonels.
Wilkes took a 3-2 lead as well as a 4-3 lead in the first set and later a 2-1 lead in the start of the second set. Besides those occasions early in the first two sets, the Eagles never trailed.
Libero Rylie Haas tallied 15 digs and helped establish Rikki Schlager's setting game with quality back row passing. Schlager dealt out 32 assists, assisting all but four of Eastern's kills. Schlager's favorite target was Sproles, but she also set up Katrina Pisch and Morgan Shemonski for eight kills apiece. Pisch hit .412 for the match, and Shemonski hit .357.
With the win, the Eagles will host DeSales University in the Freedom Conference Championship at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles beat DeSales in four sets on the road on Oct. 1.
