Women's Basketball Soars Past Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa.—Eastern University Women's Basketball improved to 2-0 to start the season after beating a local opponent again on Wednesday night.

Behind 21 points from senior forward Meghan Nowak, the Eagles stopped the nearby Rosemont College Ravens in their season opener 75-59.

Neither team started the first half well on the offensive end, and the game was knotted at 14-14 with 9:55 remaining in the half. The Eagles fell behind by five points briefly, but kept Rosemont from scoring in the final five minutes of the half. The Eagles built a 32-24 lead by halftime and stretched that lead to 30 points in the second half. Nowak put on a second-half clinic in the lane, scoring 16 of her 19 points in the period.

Eastern senior guards Gina DiDomenico and Kaitlyn Dougherty each posted 12 points. Freshman guard Taylor Price, after scoring 24 points in her first collegiate game, added 10 points on Wednesday.

The Eagles travel to Hunter College near Central Park in New York City for a Friday/Saturday tournament. The Eagles will face Lebanon Valley College on Friday at 7 p.m., a team receiving votes in the national preseason polls, and then will be playing either Hunter or SUNY-Old Westbury game on Saturday.
