ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- With a host of young players in their first collegiate game, Eastern University Men's Basketball struggled from distance, fell behind early and were never able to recover against the visiting Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace University. The visitors led by 19 at half and held on for an 82-56 win.
While the Eagles struggled to make shots, the Yellow Jackets made five of their first six 3-pointers. While Baldwin Wallace cooled off a bit after their opening flurry, the Eagles made only 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) long-range attempts in the first half.
The lone bright spot of the first half on offense was the play of Shaquan Turk. The sophomore guard was able to get to the basket and connect from the foul line leading to 15 points in the opening frame. He finished with a game-high 18 points.
Austin Carroll cut the Baldwin Wallace lead to 48-31 with a put-back basket in the opening minute of the second half, but the visitors responded with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to grab control of the game.
Tarek Hamzeh scored 7 of his 11 points after half to join Turk in double-digits. Jaron Crowe and Justin Roth led a balanced Yellow Jacket attack with 11 points apiece.
