Women's Soccer Overtaken By Devils

MADISON, N.J.--Eastern University Women's Soccer took an early first-half lead in the Freedom Conference opener on Saturday at FDU-Florham, but the Devils scored twice in quick succession in the second half to claim the 2-1 win.

Eastern sophomore forward Emily Cole scored her team-best seventh goal of the season in the loss. In the start of the ninth minute, Cole received a crisp pass in the box from midfielder Emily Roquemore and fired a shot over the head of Devils' goalkeeper Annie George.

The Eagles took two more shots in the first half, both wide, and had four more shots late in the second. FDU-Florham took 14 shots in the game, and Eastern goalkeeper Jules Leco recorded eight saves.

Eastern took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Devils scored seven minutes into the second half and then took the lead two minutes later on a goal following a corner kick.

Cole looked to tie the contest in the 64th minute, but her shot plunked off the cross bar. The Eagles had one last chance in the 90th minute, but Allison Speese's header was saved by George, her second save of the game.

On Saturday, the Eagles return to Olson Field for Homecoming after playing four straight road games. The Eagles will host Manhattanville College at 4 p.m.
