DOYLESTOWN, Pa.—A last-second goal at the end of the first half proved to be the difference in the season finale on Tuesday as Eastern University Field Hockey fell to Delaware Valley College 1-0.
Del Val's Jessica Summers pushed in the game's only goal with two seconds remaining in the first half. Eastern defender Megan Bolton recorded a defensive save near the back post but the ricocheted shot landed in front of Summers who slipped the second shot between Bolton and Eagles' goalie Jennifer O'Neill. O'Neill recorded a season-high 15 saves in the loss, and Bolton recorded two defensive saves. Bolton ended the season with a team-best 12 defensive saves.
The Eagles put eight shots on goal but were denied by Delaware Valley goalie Emily Aldridge each time. Delaware Valley out-shot Eastern 28-10 in the game and out-cornered the Eagles 15-5.
Eastern closed out the 2014 season 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the Freedom Conference. All seven of the Eagles' conference games this year have been decided by one goal.
Three seniors, Alexa Borrelli, Hannah Bartholomew and Rachelle Lehman wrapped up their careers as Eagles. In their time as Eagles, Eastern won two conference championships, advanced to the NCAA tournament twice and won 43 contests.
