Field Hockey Falls Short Against Colonels

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—In a game where Eastern University Field Hockey dominated statistically in corners and shots, the Eagles struggled to convert those opportunities Saturday and fell on the road at Wilkes University.

The Eagles dropped Saturday's Freedom Conference contest to the Wilkes Colonels, losing 2-1. Eastern junior Danielle Frasca tallied the Eagles' lone goal in the 52nd minute during one of the Eagles' 21 corners. The Eagles also had 21 corners and limited Wilkes to 12 total shots, including just one in the first half.

The Colonels struck first, converting their singular shot of the first half in the 27th minute. The goal was Keighlyn Oliver's first collegiate goal, a redirected finish in front of the cage. After Wilkes took the 1-0 lead, Eastern placed two more shots on goal before the end of the first half, but were denied by Wilkes' goalie Alexis Reed and also a defensive save with 46 seconds left in the half. Reed recorded 14 saves to earn the win.

In the 52nd minute, Eastern tied the game at 1-1. After earning a corner, the Eagles had a chance by Jess Kinzler that caromed off the post. Frasca was near the post and knocked the rebound into the cage for her fifth goal of the season.

With less than five minutes remaining, Wilkes regained the lead for good, scoring in a scrum in front of the cage. The Eagles earned four corners in the game's final four minutes but couldn't shoot past Reed.

Saturday's result evened Wilkes and Eastern at an identical 6-8 overall record and 2-2 record in the Freedom Conference.

The Eagles have three regular season games remaining, all against Freedom Conference opponents. They host FDU-Florham on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
