BRYN ATHYN, Pa.--Facing a team nicknamed the Lions for the third game in a row, Eastern Men's Basketball routed the Bryn Athyn College Lions 73-50 Saturday evening and wrapped up the first half of the season with a 7-6 overall record.
Eastern's Jimmie Willis scored a game-high 27 points while shooting 78.6 percent from the floor in 26 minutes of play. Willis hit 11 of his 14 field goals, including 2-of-3 3-pointers and hit 3-of-4 free throws. In the first half, Willis scored 18 points in just nine minutes. This is Willis' second 20+ point game this year, having scored 21 points against Manhattanville in December. For Willis, 27 points is a career best. He is now averaging 12.5 points per game this year.
In the second minute of action, Willis scored the game's opening points with a three-point play. Eastern never trailed the entire game. The Eagles built a 21-point halftime lead and lead by as much as 28 points in the second half.
Eagles' guard Malcolm Garrison hit four 3-pointers and shot 7-for-18 overall to finish with 18 points.
Garrison and Willis were the only Eagles to score in double-digits, but everyone on Eastern's 11-man roster scored. The Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the floor, their fourth best average this season, but bizarrely, for the second time this year shot worse from the free-throw line (46.2 percent) than the floor.
Eastern controlled Saturday's battle for the boards, grabbing 47 rebounds to Bryn Athyn's 27. Ben Connor had a season-high 10 rebounds. Jimmie Willis and Caleb Knudsen added eight each.
Bryn Athyn's Jeff Seigafuse scored a team-high 23 points. He was the only Lion in double-figures.
Eastern moves on to conference games the rest of the season. The Eagles host Misericordia on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
