Softball Hits Three HRs In Loss

DALLAS, Pa.--Eastern Softball dropped its road doubleheader at Misericordia University, falling 6-5 in game one and 3-2 in the second game.

The Eagles pounded three home runs in the first game, but unfortunately, so did the Misericordia Cougars. Janelle Fair, Emily Houck and Paula Redmon went yard in the game one loss.

The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Eastern responded in the third with Fair's three-run home run to left field. Fair's homer, her fourth this season and 11th of her career, came with two outs in the inning.

The Cougars scored twice more in the bottom of the third and again in the fourth inning. Down 6-3 in the sixth innning, Eastern's Houck and Redmon launched back-to-back solo home runs to left to move within one run of tying the game. However, the Eagles went 0-for-5 in their remaining at-bats of the game.

Game two started with Misericordia again scoring twice in the first inning. The Eagles didn't get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning. Kasey Williams and Fair led off the inning with walks and advanced a bag with a double steal. Houck hit a ball to second base that the second baseman threw off target, allowing Williams and Fair to score and Houck to get all the way to third on the error.

Neither team could break the tie until the seventh inning when the Cougars' best batter, Caitlin Cromley, smacked a first-pitch, walk-off RBI-single through the right side, giving Misericordia the 3-2 win.

The Eagles are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader against the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
