Softball Stymied Against DeSales

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Softball was held scoreless in 12 of the 14 innings played in Thursday's doubleheader, falling to DeSales University 6-2 and 9-3.

Jessi Baker led the Eagles with four hits Thursday, going 2-for-4 in each game.

DeSales led off the conference matchup with a bang. Bulldogs' shortstop Michelle Gessner slammed a solo home run to left field to start the top of the first inning of game one. The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the inning on an error.

Down 3-0, the Eagles went the first three innings without a baserunner. Baker reached on a single to left field to lead off the fourth. The Eagles loaded the bases later in the inning and freshman shortstop Kasey Williams provided a clutch single to right to score two runs. DeSales added another run in the fifth with a home run by catcher Shelby Wilson. The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the sixth for what ended up as the final score of 6-2.

Eagles' pitcher Janelle Fair struck out eight DeSales' batters, allowed four earned runs, and walked one in the loss.

In game two, the Eagles were held scoreless through the first six innings. DeSales scored three runs in the third, in the fifth and in the top of the seventh. With daylight waning in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles scored three runs with two outs, but were unable to come any closer. Fair, Williams and Donald picked up RBI singles in that inning. Williams picked up the game two loss.

The Eagles (4-12, 0-6 Freedom) play at Wesley College on April 2 in a non-conference doubleheader.
