MADISON, N.J.- Eastern University Baseball had runners on
in all nine innings at FDU on Sunday, but, like a bus driver without a
map, the Eagles struggled to find their way home in an 8-2 loss. Sophomore
catcher Eric Rossi went 5-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
The
Eagles (5-7, 1-4 Freedom) led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second,
but the first two frames stood as a harbinger of things to come as two
Eastern base-runners were caught stealing in the first and the bases
were left loaded in the second. Tyler Orr drove a single through the
middle to plate Rossi in the first inning. Rossi drove in the second run
with a two-out infield hit in the second.
FDU scored a single
run on two hits in the second and then took the lead for good with two
unearned runs in the third. After a pair of errors to start the inning,
the Devils scored one run on a single through the right side. The
go-ahead run came after a pair of walks.
 Through six innings, the
Eagles left 12 runners on base. The Devils also missed some chances.
FDU had the bases loaded with nobody out in the fourth. Eastern starter
got a pop-up in the infield for one out and then the rally ended with
Tyler Orr gunning down the runner trying to advance to third  on a fly
ball to left-center field. Mark Royer put the tag on the runner before
the lead runner scored.
The host Devils pulled away in the sixth
with a two-run home run from Frank LaGuarina with one out in the sixth
inning. Eastern starter Lucas Bremerman went five and two thirds
innings. FDU scored three runs against the Eastern bullpen.
FDU improves to 4-1 in Freedom Conference play with the series sweep.
With
the five-hit day, Rossi raises his season average to .517. Not
including the hit that was wiped out by snow in the erased inning of
Eastern's six-inning win at Manhattanville, Rossi was 10-for-14 (.714)
on the week with three doubles.
The Eagles are slated to
complete their season-opening series with Manhattanville College
tomorrow. Weather patterns suggest that the game may not happen
tomorrow, but it remains scheduled until snow begins to accumulate.
