ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- The numbers coming into the match were daunting, an
injured and undermanned Eastern University Women's Lacrosse was a
decided underdog against the high-scoring attack of the No. 6 Lions of
The College of New Jersey. The visiting Lions jumped to an early lead
and never looked back en route to a 19-2 non-league win.
TCNJ had
dropped two straight games coming into today, and the Lions worked their
offense with great efficiency early, and they lead 11-0 at the midway
point fo the first half. Victoria Graham finally broke through for the
Eagles with a nice finish of an Emmy Fisher pass with 12 minutes to go
in the first half.
TCNJ had a 14-1 edge at halftime.
With
the result no longer in question, the Lions used the second half to work
for specific combinations, and their consistent possession put pressure
on the Eastern defense throughout the period.
Sara Blaylock
scored on a Victoria Graham pass 12 minutes into the second half for the
only other offensive highlight of the day for the Eagles.
TCNJ (5-2) had a 23-6 advantage in shots. Marissa Pennypacker and Alex Spark each had four goals and an assist for TCNJ and Jillian Nealon had three goals and four assists.
Eastern hosts Haverford College on Wednesday.
