Women's Hoops Besieges Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y.--Eastern Women's Basketball stonewalled the Manhattanville College Valiants on Wednesday night, opening the conference season with a 79-51 victory.

Eastern kept Manhattanville from scoring a field goal in the game's first 11 minutes. Eastern amassed its largest lead of the game in the second half, when, with seven minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles led by an astounding 43 points. Eastern never trailed in Wednesday's contest.

Junior forward Meghan Nowak compiled 22 points and 17 rebounds. The 17 rebounds are tied for the most in her career in a single game. Nowak notably also went the whole game without committing a foul, doing so for the first time in her career.

Freshman Emily Lavin added 12 points and seven boards and Kaitlyn Dougherty 11 points and six rebounds.

The Eagles shot 54.1 percent from the floor, including 9-of-20 successful 3-point attempts (45 percent). Eastern was fouled only eight times during the entire game and earned eight free throws, sinking four of those attempts.

Eastern held Manhattanville to 31.8 percent field goal shooting. Alyson Caiazzo led the Valiants with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

On Saturday the Eagles hope to pick up where they left off as they continue conference play against Delaware Valley College at 1 p.m.
