The Eagles entered halftime with a momentum-shifting buzzer-beating shot by Jimmie Willis that brought Eastern within two points, 34-32. After an Eastern timeout, Knudsen attacked the rim from the right side and finished the layup to put Eastern up 78-73.
Goucher responded with a quick 3-pointer by Kevin Miles, making it a two-point game with under a minute to play. But back on the other end, Knudsen came up big again, driving hard to the basket and finishing at the left block, drawing a lot of contact but no foul. Knudsen's layup put Eastern up 80-76 with 31.8 seconds left.
The Gophers took a timeout and rushed a 3-pointer that missed and was rebounded by Carroll. Carroll drew the foul and sunk both free throws to put the game just about out of reach with 25 seconds to go. The Eagles kept the Gophers from scoring again on the next possession and Turk brought the game to its final score with a free throw, 83-76.
