Volleyball Heads To Championship Game

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern Volleyball advanced to the Freedom Conference Championship with a 3-0 win Wednesday night over the Misericordia University Cougars. The Eagles have advanced to their conference finals each year since 1995 and have won their conference championship in all but three of those years.

The Eagles established their presence at the net, recording eight team blocks and holding Misericordia to a cold .000 hitting percentage en route to a 25-11, 25-14, 25-9 victory.

Erin Hillman led the Eagles with 13 kills on 17 attempts (with one error) for a monstrous .706 hitting percentage. Lauren Sproles added eight kills and Katrina Pisch seven. As a team, the Eagles hit .370 and also served eight aces.

In the first set, the Eagles jumped to a 14-7 lead and then rattled off seven straight points with Kearby Benak serving. The Eagles went on to win the first set 25-11.

The second set started out close with the Eagles and Cougars tied at 9-9. The Eagles got hot and went on a 12-2 run before winning the second set 25-14. Everything seemed to be going right for the Eagles in that run; Lauren Sproles was even able to get a kill from her knees at 17-11. (Instagram Video)

Eastern had total control in the third set en route to the 16-point victory sealed with a kill by Shannon Phillips.
