DALLAS, Pa.- In the best of seasons, winning road games in
conference play is a difficult thing. Eastern University Men's
Basketball (2-12, 0-3) shot only 39 percent from the floor and gave up
8-of-16 3-pointers in falling 83-59 at Misercordia University.
After starting the game down 13-1, the Eagles put together an energetic
burst to take a 21-20 lead with seven and a half minutes to play in the
period, but the host Cougars scored 20 of the final 24 points in the
period to take a 40-25 lead into the break. Malcolm Garrison was the
only Eastern starter to make a basket in the first half. Kyle Malloy led
the way with seven points off the bench.
Misericordia stretched the lead to 30 at the midway point of the second
period and held the lead down the stretch. Garrison lead Eastern with 10
points. Freshman transfer Matt Tyson scored nine points in his debut
with the Eagles.
The Cougars, who led by as much as 33, had five of thier nine turnovers
in the final three minutes. Steve Ware scored 19 points and Matt Greene
added 15.
