PURCHASE, N.Y.--Eastern University Softball lit up the scoreboard in game one of the Freedom Conference Championships, defeating the Manhattanville College Valiants 16-4 Friday morning.

The Eagles blasted 11 runs in the top of the sixth to break open what was a close game and advanced in the winner's bracket of the championships.

Three Eagles launched home runs in the win. Maggie McGowan hit her fifth of the year, while Sam Terenzoni and Janelle Fair each hit their second bomb of the season. Fair finished with a game-high five RBIs while batting 2-for-3. She also earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out five.

Eastern scored the first runs of the game in the second inning when Tori Jacobson hit an RBI-double to follow Emily Houck's double. Later in the inning, Janelle Fair walked with the bases loaded to put Eastern up 2-0.

Eastern's Katelyn Donald singled in the third to score Jaime Schwartz, but Manhattanville earned back two runs with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third by Arianna Martignetti and Katie Pitcher.

Fair bumped the Eagles lead to 5-2 in the fourth with her two-run home run. Manhattanville cut the deficit to 5-4 with a two-run home run by Kristen Rodopoulos in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, the Eagles started off with a bang--Sam Terenzoni's leadoff home run. The Eagles then scored five runs on bases-loaded errors and walks. Fair then hit a two-RBI single and McGowan followed with a three-RBI home run. Because the Eagles held onto at least a 10-run, the game ended after six innings.

The Eagles will play again today against the winner of the Misericordia/King's game at approximately 3:30 pm.
