Men's LAX Completes Conference Sweep

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Men's Lacrosse completed its sweep of the Freedom Conference, defeating Misericordia Saturday 16-2 to finish 5-0 in the Freedom Conference and 11-4 overall during the regular season.

Eastern's Matt Wagner and Zac Ivy each blasted five goals in the win. One of Ivy's goals was a falling catch and shot mid-air. Eric Waibel scored twice, and Ron Johnson, Matt Soldano, Will Johnson, and Kevin Andersen each scored in the win. 

In stark contrast to the Eagles' single goal scored in Wednesday's second half, the Eagles posted 10 second half goals on Saturday.

Eagles senior Dave Hoger started in goal for the second time in his career and recorded five saves in 11 minutes of play. Hoger exited after the first three minutes and returned for the final eight minutes. Aaron Benz recorded six saves in 49 minutes.

Misericordia actually scored first in this contest, netting a goal with 5:29 in the first quarter. Eastern responded with a goal 13 seconds later by Matt Wagner. Wagner scored Eastern's next two goals to put the Eagles up 3-1 at the end of the first. Eastern scored the first three goals of the second quarter before allowing the Cougars' second goal. The Eagles scored six in the third and four in the fourth to finish the game.

Eastern's A.J. Ryan won 17-of-21 faceoffs in the win.

Eastern will host the Freedom Conference Championship game on Thursday. The Eagles would need to win the MAC Championship on Saturday to earn an automatic qualifing bid to the NCAA tournament.
