ST. DAVIDS, Pa--Eastern University Softball rallied to defeat the Swarthmore College Garnet 4-2 in game two to split its final non-conference series of the season.
The Eagles dropped game one 7-4 in extra innings. With the split, the Eagles' record stands at 19-18-1 going into the final weekend of the regular season.
In game two Eastern pitcher Maggie McGowan earned her sixth win of the season, allowing just two runs and six hits. After giving up two runs in the first, McGowan cruised through the second inning, delivering just four pitches to get through all three batters.
Eastern posted runs in the first and second inning. Janelle Fair slapped an RBI-double to the fence in right center to score Sam Terenzoni in the first inning. Jessie Baker singled to tie the score in the second.
To lead off the fifth inning, Janelle Fair worked a nine-pitch at-bat and singled up the middle. Three batters later, Emily Houck cranked a two-out double to put runners at second and third. Tori Jacobson sent both runners home with a bloop single that dropped in between second base and centerfield, giving Eastern the 4-2 win.
In the first game, Eastern trailed 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, but rallied to score three runs to send the game to extras. However, in the top of the eighth, Swarthmore plated three runs, all unearned, and Eastern left two runners on in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
Five Eagles picked up a multi-hit game in the doubleheader. Jaclyn Gangemi and Janelle Fair each went 3-for-5 in game one, and in game two, Janelle Fair went 2-for-3, Sam Terenzoni went 3-for-4, Tori Jacobson went 2-for-3, and Emily Houck went 3-for-3.
The Eagles wrap up the season against Misericordia at 1 pm on Saturday at home.
