Softball Splits Day Two Of Spring Break

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--Eastern University Softball split its pair of games on Tuesday, dropping the first game 3-2 to SUNY-IT and shutting out PSU-Harrisburg 6-0 in the second game.

Freshman second baseman Emily Houck led the Eagles' offensive, batting a total of 4-for-7 in both games, including a homerun to center and three doubles.

In game one against SUNY IT, the Eagles fell behind 2-0  but tied the game in the top half of the fourth with Houck's two-run bomb. Houck provided the only offense for the Eagles in game one, as she recorded both of Eastern's hits.

The SUNY IT Wildcats regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, and retired the final six Eastern batters in order.

In the second game, Eastern pitcher Janelle Fair scattered eight hits while pitching a complete game shutout.

After scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth, the Eagles tacked on four more runs in the fifth innning. All four runs came with two outs in the inning. Jaime Schwartz singled in a run, Tori Jacobson knocked in two runs with a single to left field and later scored after a PSU-Harrisburg error. Jacobson also scored the Eagles final run when a ground ball by Sam Terenzoni allowed her to score in the top of the seventh. Jacobson batted reached base safely all four times up to the plate, going 2-for-2 with two walks.

Pitcher Janelle Fair also went 2-for-2 with two walks. She also made a brilliant play on the mound in the third inning, snagging a line drive that screamed right towards her head.

The Eagles continue their spring break play tomorrow at 9am against Penn College and 11am against Immaculata.
