WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—Three players combined for 66 points in Eastern
Women's Basketball's 20-point win over Wilkes University Wednesday night.
Katie Lincoln, Bekah Roland and Meghan Nowak scored all but
six of Eastern's points as the Eagles topped the Colonels 72-52 Wednesday night.
Eastern improved to 13-4 (5-2 Freedom Conference) this season.
With 29 points Wednesday, Nowak reclaimed the rights to the league
lead in scoring. Nowak now averages 21.3 points per game. Katie Lincoln scored
19 points, her fourth-most in her career, and dished out six assists. Bekah Roland
scored 18 points in the game to move her into fifth-place all-time in scoring
in Eastern's record book, passing Amanda Magri's (01-05) 1,215 points. Roland
has 1,231 points now in her four-year career.
Eagles' coach Nate Davis was proud of the way those three took advantage of Wilkes' defense and carried Eastern's offense. The Eagles had to play most of the game without Shante Jones who is second on the team with 15.4 points per game. Jones, battling an illness, played all 16 of her minutes in the second half. She contributed
five points and six assists.
The Eagles led for the entirety of the game, but only had a
four-point halftime lead. Five minutes into the second half, Eastern took a
double-digit lead. When Wilkes cut the deficit to seven with 7:27 left, Eagles'
Roland responded with a second-chance layup that sent Eastern on a 10-0 run
that put the game out of reach.
Eastern plays Manhattanville College at 1 pm Saturday at
home.
