Women's Soccer Stumbles in OT

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-- Elizabethtown College forward Kendra Mancino scored in the 107th minute to lift the visiting Blue Jays to a 2-1 win over Eastern in women's soccer action. The overtime game-winner came on Elizabethtown's only shot in the final half hour of the game.

The Eagles (2-3-1) jumped to an early lead in the 14th minute on Tess Beckwith's second tally of the season. Beckwith found space behind the Blue Jay back line on an Allison Inch through ball and rolled the ball just inside the left upright.

The Eagles held that edge for just over 13 minutes before Mancino received a long throw in and dribbled along the end line. She was able to gain a deep position and pulled the ball off the end line far enough to fire an equalizing shot from close range.

While the shot statistics were fairly even for the match, the Eagles held a decisive edge in corners (8-1) and possession through the latter part of the match. The Blue Jays, however, stayed organized in front of junior goalkeeper Jess Manchak and were able to clear the ball from danger.

Head Coach Dan Mouw was disappointed in his team's inability to find the final pass.

"We played well enough up to the edge of the scoring area," he said, "but we were ineffective in completing plays. When you rely on combination play to create chances, everyone has to be on. Today, we did not have the type of connection that we want to see."

The Eagles' best chances came on corners. They had opportunities in each overtime, including a two-shot flurry in the 104th minute.

The Blue Jays (3-1-1) found the game-winner on their only foray into the Eastern half in the second overtime. Alex Topa ran through a loose ball 30 yards out and served a ball across the box that Mancino headed just under the bar from 15 yards out.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday with another home test against Alvernia University.
