ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- The visiting Arcadia University Knights scored the
opening goal of the game, but Eastern University Women's Lacrosse
rallied with nine straight goals and cruised to a 17-6 win. With the
win, the Eagles secure the sixth seed in the upcoming MAC playoffs.
The
Eastern staff honored seniors Sam Fretz, Grace Griffith, and Lindsay
Moosey prior to the start of the game. Griffith scored four times, and
Moosey registered a career best three goals in the contest.
Stephanie
Holguin opened the scoring ninety seconds into the game with her first
of four on the day. The Eagles answered the opening tally nearly
immediately on a Christy Hild free position shot. Three minutes later,
Hild set up Griffith in transition. Griffith buried the high shot for
her 46th goal of the year. That marker also gave the Eastern senior her
300th career point. She is the fourth player in Eastern University
history to reach that plateau.
Hild scored twice more and
Griffith scored on a nice feed from Allie Fultz to put the hosts up 5-1
at the midway point of the opening period. Griffith then picked up her
team-best 22nd helper of the year on a feed to Allie Gauthier out of a
free position situation.
Kendall Rood scored a pair of goals and
Griffith buried her third of the day to build the lead to 9-1 before
Holguin stopped the run with an unassisted tally with 3:10 to play in
the frame. The Eagles held a 17-7 edge in shots and an 8-3 edge in draw
controls in the first period.
Moosey opened the second-half
scoring with her eighth of the year. The Eagles continued to build
their lead with solid possession and good defense through the midfield.
Moosey and Courtney Reinhold both played an influential role in foiling
countless clearing attempts. Reinhold finished with five caused
turnovers and Moosey had six.
Emmy Fischer provided a highlight
goal with a quick stick shot from Fultz with ten minutes to play.
Lindsay Corbitt played the first 41 minutes and picked up the win in
goal. Kristy Getsay finished with a pair of saves in relief.
The Eagles travel back to FDU-Florham on Tuesday for their first-round game.
