DALLAS, Pa.- Eastern University Softball entered Freedom Conference play on an eight game winning streak. The cold weather in Dallas and the solid performances from the Misericordia pitchers stifled the Eastern attack, and the host Cougars hit just enough to escape witha pair of one-run wins.
Michelle Morongell hit a two-out double in the opening inning of game one. No other Eastern player would reach base against Misericordia starter Caitlin Cromley for the remainder of the game. While Cromley dominated Eastern starter Kristine Rosko and reliever Janelle Fair matched her through six and two-thirds.Â
The game looked bound for extra innings when Misericordia center fielder Jillian Castaldi homered to give the hosts the first game.
In the nightcap, the Cougars scored runs in the third and fourth innings and held off a late Eastern rally to earn the early season sweep.
The Eagles (8-4, 0-2 Freedom) look to get back on the winning track when they host Penn Sate Berks in their home opener tomorrow at 3:00.
