Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Takes Two in Tri-Match

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Volleyball topped Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets and the York College Spartans in three sets to sweep a home Tri-Match.

The Eagles increased their winning streak to 19 matches with the 25-17, 25-10, 25-16 win over the Yellow Jackets and the 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 win over the Spartans Saturday.

The Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets had played two nationally-ranked opponents prior to coming to Eastern--two opponents that Eastern was very familiar with. Randolph Macon had lost to Emory University and, also just like Eastern, had beaten Christopher Newport University in five sets.

However, the Eagles offense proved to be too much for Randolph-Macon to handle Saturday morning. As a team, Eastern accumulated a .321 hitting percentage, up .132 points from Friday night's win over Haverford College. Four Eagles hitting .400 significantly helped Eastern get those numbers up.

Maria Horning had a team high hitting percentage of .462 for the Eagles. She scored 7 kills on 13 attempts with one error. Rachel Wenger and Kearby Benak each added 7 kills as well. Courtney Reinhold led Eastern with 18 kills on 37 attacks, finishing with a .405 hitting percentage. Katrina Pisch scored five kills with one error on 10 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.

Libero Kelly Groff again paced the Eagles defense with 23 digs. Benak and Horning contributed double-digit digs with 15 and 13, respectively.

Randolph-Macon scored first against Eastern and kept pace until 11-9. The Eagles took advantage of a few attack errors by the Yellow Jackets and soon held a 19-10 lead that they would not give up.

The second set belonged entirely to the Eagles. Randolph-Macon earned consecutive serves only three times in the set. In the third set, Eastern led 5-3 then scored five straight points to put the game out of reach.

In the afternoon match, Eastern hit .379 compared to York's .022.

Courtney Reinhold and Rachel Wenger each hit .455 with 12 and six kills, respectively. Reinhold also blasted four aces.

Katrina Pisch recorded a .667 percentage with nine kills. Kearby Benak scored eight kills and Amy Guarino added six kills in two sets.

Eastern plays DeSales University at home Wednesday for Senior Night before traveling to St. Louis, Mo. for a weekend tournament at No. 3 Washington University.
