Field Hockey Tops Misericordia in OT

DALLAS, Pa.--Eastern University Field Hockey won its second straight overtime game, defeating the Misericordia University Cougars 3-2.

Senior Yvonne Herbster scored the game-winner off a penalty corner in the 71st minute. Brittany Moyer inserted the ball to Kelby Bolton and Bolton found Herbster open in front of the goal for the score. For the second game in a row, Bolton assisted the game-winning goal. For Herbster, the goal was her fifth of the season.

The Eagles, now 5-4 this season, attacked the Cougars early and often, but did not score until the beginning of the second half when Kelby Bolton scored her second goal of the season in the 39th minute. Eastern outshot Misericordia 10-1 in the first half and 18-4 in the game. The Eagles also earned 20 penalty corners to the Cougars four. "We were in the offensive circle a lot in the first half, but we could not get the ball across the line," coach Camrin Azzarano said.

Misericordia evened the score in the 48th minute, but Eastern regained the lead in the 60th minute. Alison Salvati scored off an assist by Abby Wagner. "Wagner's continued to do a great job of sparking the attack and getting the ball to the goal cage," Azzarano said.

Just a minute-and-a-half later, Misericordia scored to tie the game and sent the game to overtime.

The Eagles have played three straight overtime games. "Overtime in hockey is a very unpredictable thing," Azzarano said, "yet our girls handled it well and scored on a really well-executed corner."

The Eagles enter another tough week with three games, playing on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
