MADISON, N.J.- Eastern University Women's Basketball struggled all night
to find offensive rhythm and shot a woeful 24% in a 61-38 loss at
FDU-Florham. The Eagles closed a first-half deficit down to six to start
the second half, and were within ten with 13 minutes to play, but the
host Devils were able to get into the lane consistently and pull away.
The Eagles converted just 6-25 first half shots, but a solid defensive
effort through the fist 20 minutes kept them within eight at 23-15.
Shaleah Alston hit three three-pointers to pace the hosts with 12 at the
break. Jess Ogden led Eastern with six.
Out of the intermission, Eastern committed to getting the ball inside,
and they quickly worked their way into the bonus as Shante Jones and
Katie Lincoln each earned trips to the foul line. The Devil, however
answered with baskets at the other end, and they pulled away as the
Eagles stopped getting to the line.
Jones finished with 18 points
and 15 rebounds in the loss. Brianna Nicholls led the Devils with 26
points and Alston added 20.
The Eagles (9-6, 2-4 Freedom) look
to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they host
Manhattanville College at 1:00 p.m..
