Field Hockey Rolls On at Wilkes

Eastern University Field Hockey won their 7th consecutive outing with a 2-0 win at Wilkes University on Saturday. The win gets the ninth ranked Eagles (8-1, 1-0) off to a good start in the Freedom Conference race. Wilkes is the only Freedom Conference opponent to hold a regular season win over the Eagles in the last two years.

Two first year players scored for the Eagles in their league opener. Abby Wagner connected in the 26th minute on a nice feed from Kim Campbell and Ashley Beck buried a solo effort in the 43rd minute. Beck dribbled the final 40 yards of the field before slipping a shot into the cage for the first tally of her collegiate career.

Azzarano was pleased with her team's effort in the heat. She cited the work of Hope Donnelly and Danielle Danser on defense as the Eagles earned their fifth shutout of the 2010 campaign. Laura Ressler made four saves in goal to secure the win.

The two teams each attempted eight corners and Eastern fired seventeen shots to just ten for the hosts. The Eagles play at 13th ranked Rowan on Thursday night.
