Softball Swept in Season Finale

The Eastern University softball team's rollercoaster ride through the 2010 season ended on a sour note in a home doubleheader against Misericordia. The Eagles fell 7-0 and 14-0 in their final two games of the year

Misericordia's Kat Lucenti was masterful on the mound. The senior held Eastern to seven hits during ten innings of work between the two games.

The Eagles struggled to string any type of offense together against the Cougars leaving 15 runners on base throughout the course of the twinbill. However, the Cougars bats were scorching hot. Misericordia banged out 7 hits in the first game and 14 in the run rule shortened second game.

"Obviously ended your season like this is disappointing," said head coach Brittany Stroop. "Misericordia's pitcher was tough. She painted the outside corner consistently and we struggled as a team to adjust. Hitting the ball where its pitched is definitely going to be on our list of goals as we prepare for 2011."

Following the game, Eastern recognized their two seniors. Meagan Constanzer returned to the team for 2010 after two injury plagued seasons as a sophomore and junior. Steph Weaver was the Eagles' only four year player on the roster and split time at several positions in 2010.

"No senior wants to lose on Senior Day," added Stroop. "However, the level of leadership that these two showed today and throughout the year is a testament to their character and integrity. They never gave up on themselves or their teammates and that is something as a coach you are always grateful for."

The future looks bright for the Eagles. Coach Stroop returns thirteen players including ten players that have seen time in the starting lineup for 2011.
