just seven hits and three runs as they dropped the first two games in their second Freedom Conference series of the year.
King's took
advantage of six walks in the third inning of the opener. They scored
seven runs on three hits and grabbed control of the game. Matt Martin
entered the game with the bases loaded, and, for the first time this
year, he allowed an inherited runner to score.
The
Eagles scored three runs with two out in the fifth, but the host
Monarchs took those runs back with one in the bottom of the fifth and
three in the bottom of the sixth. Scott Renauro drove in two runs with a double.
In the second game, the Eastern hitters
put runners on second and third with one out in the first inning, but
the Monarchs' Tommy Rozelle escaped the jam and then held the Eagles
without another hit until the sixth.
King's
scored a pair of runs against John Taylor in the third. They then
grabbed another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Renauro
had a double in each game to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
The sophomore shortstop has reached base in all thirteen games this
year.
The Eagles (6-7, 1-4 Freedom) will try to salvage a win
in the series when they face the Monarchs in St. Davids tomorrow. First
pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
