Eastern University Women's Lacrosse
grabbed an early 3-1 lead in a tough non-league contest at The College
of New Jersey, but the fifth ranked Lions stormed back and claimed a
22-9 win. Grace Griffith scored four times and Kelly Dando scored three times, but Eastern's top scoring effort of the year was not enough to overcome the high-scoring TCNJ attack.
After
TCNJ scored early, Jess Field tied the game on a feed from Krystal
Cairns. Griffith scored her first less than a minute later and Dando
gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead on a Field pass just over five minutes into
the contest. The Lion attack then scored seven straight goals to grab
an 8-3 lead with twelve minutes to play in the first half. Dando and
Courtney Reinhold scored consecutive goals to cut the Lion edge to 8-5,
but another seven goal spurt gave the Lions a 15-5 lead at the break.
Head Coach Camrin Azzarano saw positive moments as her young squad took on the highly regarded Lions.
"We had moments to build on," she said, " and I think we also see
things that we can do to get better. I was pleased with the way we
competed."
The Eagles (0-3) return to action on Thursday with their MAC opener at Misericordia University.
