Eastern University Volleyball entered this evening's Freedom Conference finale at Delaware Valley College with a pair of conflicting streaks. The 5th
ranked Eagles had dropped two straight games, albeit to a pair of top-4
teams last weekend. The other streak, a regular season conference
winning streak that dates back to 2000, was the one that stayed alive as
the Eagles topped the Aggies in three.
The
Eagles, competing in their pink uniforms, jumped to a convincing 25-8
first set win. They played nearly error free volleyball with a .412
hitting percentage.
Eastern connected on 15 more kills in the
second set, but more errors extended the set to 25-21. The Eagles closed
out the match with a .394 hitting percentage in the third set.
With a big weekend in Texas starting tomorrow, the Eastern staff limited rotations for several regulars. Rachel Wenger finished with a match-high ten kills, and Courtney Reinhold and Kearby Benak finished with nine kills apiece. Maria Horning finished with 35 assists. Horning, who leads the nation in assists per set, is on pace to eclipse the 1000 assist mark for this season this weekend.
After
their time in Texas, the Eagles will begin Freedom Conference
Championship action on Wednesday Nov. 3rd at 7:00 pm. They will host
fourth seeded DeSales.
