The Eastern Eagles volleyball team had only a few hours to recover and regroup from their 3-0 loss to host Juniata College at the Juniata Invitational in Huntingdon, Pa. on Friday night. The Eagles put together a strong performance in the morning match with a3-0 win over Dickinson.
Eastern jumped to a strong start in their second match as as well. They cruised to a 25-19 first set win over Hiram. The Eagles sputtered in the second and third sets and fell 23-25 and 21-25. Eastern rallied to force a fifth set by with a 25-22 win in the fourth and then pulled out the comeback win with a 15-11 victory in the fifth set.
"We played very well in the morning," said Eagles' head coach Mark Birtwistle, "but it was good to see how we responded to come from behind in the afternoon. Maria [Horning] controlled our offense, while Nikki [Kummerer] led our defense today."
"Courtney [Reinhold] also had an outstanding day along with Rachel [Wenger] and Bridget [Carey]," remarked Birtwistle following the matches.
Reinhold once again led the team in kills as she amassed 42 kills during the second day of the Invite. Reinhold also led the way in hitting percentage with .530. Carey and Wenger also tallied double digit kills with 21 and 15 respectively.
The Eagles have a few days off before they cross Eagle Rd. to face next door neighbor Cabrini on Thursday, September 10. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
