The Eastern University men's soccer team lost 1-0 to Arcadia at Olson
Field . The former rivals have a rich history of tight men's soccer
games dating back to their time as the top two teams in the PAC. With
Arcadia in the Commonwealth, and Eastern in the Freedom, this
afternoon's match was a non-league match for the two MASCAC schools.
Arcadia scored the game-winner with just 80 seconds to play.
On the day, the Eagles played well in the middle of the field, but they were unable to connect
on the final ball for a marker. The Eastern staff expressed some satisfaction in the possession and composure in their midfield, and that possession put the Eastern team on the doorstep for mush of the day.
The Eagles held a 9-5 edge in shots,
but only put a pair of those strikes on frame. The Eagles had two of their best
chances to take the lead on restarts midway through the second half.
Terry Fry's serve from the left found Drew Bixler on the doorstep, but the junior's header sailed over the bar. Moments later, Nate Goble's header clipped the outside of the upright and bounced wide.
Arcadia's Zachary Todd set up the game winner with a steal deep in Eastern territory. He slid a ball into the box for Joe Procopio for the final margin.
The Eagles, who dropped their fourth straight, showed positive signs in
the run of play, but they will still have to find a way to finish scoring
chances. Eastern will have to do that on the road as they return to action at Centenary College on Tuesday.
