ten innings in the opener and fell 5-2 in the nightcap.
The host
Fords jumped to a 6-1 lead after three innings. Andrew Reynolds homered in the top of the third, but the Fords put together seven hits and a
pair of walks to get into the Eastern bullpen. Eastern manufactured a
run when Phil Clark walked, stole second, and scored on Chris Dole's
single up the middle.
The Eastern bullpen did its job as Paul
Elliot set down the hosts in order in the fourth before handing the
ball off to Dole for the conclusion. Dole would end the day with five
plus innings and allow just a single unearned run in the eighth.
With
the Haverford offense slowed, the Eagles put together a big inning in
the top of the fifth to tie the score at 6-6. Jim Crowley singled and
would eventually score on a Ramon Reyes single, but Ryan Polk delivered
the big blow of the frame with a three run shot to left field to tie
the game.
Dole continued to hold the Fords at bay, but the Eagles
were unable to generate another run in the extra frames. Haverford
finally pushed across the game winner on an unearned run in the bottom
of the tenth.
Eastern Skipper Matt Midkiff, was encouraged with
his team's effort in the opener, saying "It was good to see our guys
bounce back from an early deficit and our relievers gave us a chance to
win."
The Eagles managed just three hits in the nightcap, but
were still in the game at 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. The
Fords pushed across a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth
to emerge with a 5-2 win.
The Eagles return to action at home on Tuesday with their Freedom Conference opener against FDU-Florham.
