The Eastern University Women's Basketball team held visiting the Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagles to just 16 first half points, and they pulled away to a 71-40 win in their final home game of the year. Bekah Roland and Hannah Tobin each had 16 points and ten rebounds to lead Eastern.
Eastern
dominated the glass throughout the game. They used nine offensive
rebounds in the first half to help open up a 26-10 lead with just over five
minutes to play as Tobin connected on three putback attempts.
The home Eagles kept their edge at 16 as they went to the
break up 32-16. Tobin led all scorers with 8 points. Roland had six
points and seven rebounds at half. Tanisha Starkes came off the bench to hit 3-4 from the field for seven points. The Easten half-court defense forced 12 first half turnovers while holding their visitors to just 27% shooting.
Eastern
gradually extended their lead through the second half and held their
biggest advantage when Kelly Torres connected on a free throw with 18
seconds to play. Eastern hit 43% of their shots in the second half
while claiming 14 offensive rebounds. For the game, the home team held
a commanding 58-23 edge on the glass.
Starkes
finished the day with 15 points on just seven shots. Senior Lizzie
Wilson, who has a year of eligibility remaining, finished the day with
seven points and seven rebounds.
Dani Norton scored 15
points to lead the Crimson Eagles. Summer Mullen added ten for the
visitors. The Eagles return to Freedom Conference action for their
season finale on Saturday at King's College. That game will start at
1:00 pm.
