The Eastern University Women's
Basketball team held the visiting Colonels from Wilkes to 22% shooting
and 20 points in the first half, but the solid half-court defense was
not enough as the Eagles could only muster 19 first half points of
their own on the way to a 54-49 loss. Bekah Roland tied for game-high honors with 18 points and Lizzie Wilson added 17.
The
Eagles played solid defense throughout, but the several inopportune
turnovers and 30% shooting for the game put them in a hole that turned
out to be too deep. Wilkes used a 13-0 run over six minute stretch
early in the second half to erase a five point Eastern lead. The
Colonels enjoyed a massive 52-40 edge on the boards as Chelsey Gosse (18 points 15 rebounds) and Samantha Simcox (11 points and 11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles. Roland led the Eagles with 15 rebounds.
After
the Eagles pared the Wilkes lead to 3 points, the Colonels put together
a 17-2 to build their biggest lead of the game before the Eastern
defense began to create scoring opportunities for a 15-2 run to close
out the contest.
The Eagles return to action Monday evening with a Freedom Conference game against former PAC rival Misericordia.
