From the beginning it was going to be one of those days. On Monday, the Eagles won a game from PAC power Gwynedd-Mercy College, but the fourth game in three days proved to be too much for the Eastern pitching staff as the visiting Messiah Falcons pounded out 20 hits and 25 runs on the way to a 25-8 win. Davis Murray had a solid 3-4 day at the plate, but the Eastern bats could not keep up.
In the top of the first, the visitors connected for four runs on a pair of home runs. Nolan Potter then settled in for the Eagles and retired the Falcons with just one more run in the first four innings. The Eagles put together a two run rally in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 4-2. Murray knocked in Mike Santello with a ringing double and Andrew Reynolds drove in Murray with a two-out single, but the Eagles could draw no closer.
With Potter finished for the day, the Falcons touched up several less-exerienced arms in the Eastern rotation as they struck for six in the fifth, six in the sixth, two in the seventh, and five in the ninth. The Eagles put together a five-run ninth to close the game.
With the focus on three big league series coming up, the Eastern staff knew going in to today's game that they were going to need to piece together a game with their pitching staff. The Eagles have two days to recover before hosting PAC favorite Alvernia in the first game of a big three game set. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
