April 30: Softball Falls in Quarters at Gwynedd

By virtue of their 12 win conference season, the Eastern University softball team earned their second straight trip to the PAC Playoffs. In 2007, the Eagles put together a run to the weekend. This year, the pieces did not fall into place, and the Eagles dropped their opener 5-1 at Gwynedd-Mercy.

The Eagles managed eight hits in the seven inning contest, but left runners on base to end every inning. Senior Ashley Lewis led the Eastern hitters with a 3-4 including a pair of doubles. Lewis picked up the only Eastern RBI with a two-out single in the fifth.

The host Griffins jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and built a 5-0 lead before the Eagles tallied in the fifth. The Eastern season ends with the Eagles picking a program best 20 wins for the year. With a strong core returning for 2009, Coach Ambler's squad will look to be competitive right away in the MAC.
