Baseball Drops Three in Florida

have struggled against some of the top teams in Division III early. The Eagles  fall to 0-6 after dropping a pair to Elizabethtown College today.

Mike Santello put together a 5-7 performance for the doubleheader, but a pair of bad innings did the Eagles in against a very solid E-town team.

Eastern held a 3-1 lead through five innings in the first game. An early error gave the Blue jays an open window, and they exploded for six runs to take a 7-3 lead. The Eastern offense put a runner on with two outs in the sixth and the seventh, but was unable to reach for another run.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Eagles manufactured a single run as Andrew Reynolds plated Kenny Long with sacrifice fly. The Blue Jays took advantage of three walks and four hit batsmen to score 8 in the bottom of the first to put the game out of reach early. The Blue Jays put five more on the board in the fifth for the 14-3 final margin.

Coach Curley said of the games, "We were where we wanted to be in the first game, and then they took advantage of a bad inning. When things started to go badly in the first, we weren't able to get past the way the first game ended. The early part of our schedule is really tough, but we have to keep going."

The Eagles return to action tomorrow in Fort Pierce against Susquehanna University.
