Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Downs Misericordia

Eastern University Field Hockey earned an important Freedom Conference win with a 3-1 victory over the Misericordia University Cougars. The win lifts the Eagles to 12 -6 on the year and secures at least a second seed for Coach Azzarano's squad. Christin Haas scored a pair of goals to lead the way for the Eagles.

Neither team was able to do much damage through the opening minutes of the match, but the Eagles clearly controlled play with an 8-1 edge in shots and penalty corners . Haas finally broke through with her seventh of the year on a pass from fellow freshman Yvonne Herbster. The speedy midfielder was able to find a little space and give the home team a 1-0 lead at the break.

Six minutes into the second half, Lindsay Moyer converted a stroke for her team-best 14th goal  of  the year. Haas outran the Cougar defense in the 59th minute for the final Eastern goal of the game. Eastern Head Coach Camrin Azzarano said of Haas's big day, "She was on fire for us today. She was able to use her speed to her advantage and it made a big difference for us."

The Cougars scored in the waning seconds of the match to make the final 3-1. Kelly Hermann and Laura Ressler split time in the Eastern goal for the win.

The Eagles now await the result of tomorrow's match between Wilkes and King's. If King's beats Wilkes, then the Eagles will be the top seed and will host the winner of Misericordia and FDU-Florham. If the Colonels down the Monarchs, then the Eagles will be the second seed and will host the Cougars again on Wednesday.
