Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Escapes with 3-0 Win

It took nearly sixty-six minutes. Terry Fry finally broke a 0-0 tie with a nifty finish of a Matt Demascola through ball, and the Eagles added two more late goals to earn an important 3-0 win at FDU-Florham.

Though the Eagles held a 4-1 advantage in first half shots, they were unable to create a great chance as the host Devils were content to put numbers behind the ball and play for set pieces and counter-attacks.

FDU earned five first half corner kicks that Michael Dorsch and the Eastern back line had to defend. Eastern Associate Head Coach Jim Henderson identified the play of Mike Leitzel as being critical in enabling the Eastern defense to earn their seventh shutout of the year.

Eastern came out of the break and pushed their hosts backwards quickly. The visitors earned several early corners, but the FDU defense was able to keep the Eagles off the board for the first twenty minutes of the second.

Fry changed the game with his tenth goal of the year. Demascola set up the goal with a well-weighted ball over the FDU backs that hit the junior forward in stride. Fry took a touch and then slotted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to give the Eagles all the offense they would need.

Fry capitalized on another chance in the 81st minute when he picked off a loose ball behind the FDU backs for another goal in transition. High pressure from the Eastern front line created the final goal of the game. After Braden Gross and Grant Supplee forced a ball backward, Ben Faro blocked a goalkeeper clear into the goal for his first goal of the year.

Michael Dorsch made a pair of saves in goal to earn the shutout.

With the win, Eagles improve to 2-1-1 in Freedom Conference play. They return to Olson Field Wednesday afternoon for another critical conference match with Alvernia College. That game will begin at 3:30.
