Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Tops Gordon to Improve to 2-0

Before the second game of the year, the Eastern University Field Hockey players joined their guests from Gordon College for a short devotional time. The two squads then took the field for an afternoon of fierce competition. Lindsay Moyer scored twice to lift the Eagles to a 3-1 win.

The game began with Eastern controlling much of the play, but the Gordon defenders stood their ground to protect the goal. The Eagles finally cracked the Scot defense on a penalty corner goal with just over five minutes to go in the half. Moyer finished the corner on an assist from Katie Maguire. Maguire, a Wayne native, recorded her first college point on the play.

The Scots battle back less than a minute later on a goal from Ariadne Niavindaki from Valerie Pierce on another penalty corner. The first half ended with the two teams tied.

First year forward Katerina Tellis broke the draw 23 minutes into the second half when she knocked in an unassisted goal on another penalty corner. Coach Azzarano was very pleased with her team's improved execution on corners. "We went 0-16 last night at Philadelphia Biblical, but today we finished two. We always want to get better on those, but that is a big improvement in 18 hours."

Moyer scored her second of the match with four and a half minutes to go to secure the win for the Eagles. Coach Azzarano said of the game, "We love the spirit of the game when we can play against a team with so many important things in common. We enjoyed the opportunity to host Gordon. The Eagles return to action Thursday night at The College of New Jersey.
