In Eastern University Men's Lacrosse's post-season debut, the Cabrini College Cavaliers took advantage of a slow start from the Eagles to jump to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 15-4 win. The Cavaliers advance to Saturday's PAC Final, while the Eagles walk away with another another program first.
The heavily favored Cavaliers jumped to an early lead, and built their 4-0 lead to 8-0 in the second quarter before Nate Trunfio tucked away an unassisted tally to give the Eagles a glimmer of life. After the Cavaliers scored the first two goals of the third, Kyle Dresser scored a nice transition goal from Michael Hofmeister.
Pat Dempsey added a pair of fourth quarter goals for the Eagles. Rich Romanelli scored four times for Cabrini, and Casey Grugan collected three goals and four assists for the 12th ranked Cavaliers.
Coach Levis said of the game, "we were very disappointed with the first five minutes, but after that we made some steps. For a second year program to make the playoffs is a good start. I'm really glad we were able to get there for Chris [Franklin] and Ben [Peddicord]. Our young guys had lots of opportunity to play during the year, and we feel good about the group we have coming in to give us more depth."
The Eagles are in their second year back as a varsity team and won a program-record seven games. They graduate just two seniors from this year's roster.
