of Washington, DC to battle Catholic University in a non-league game on Tuesday. The Eagles played a clean game but fell to Catholic 5-3.
Eastern pitcher
Zach Clouser, pitching on 2 days rest after his six innings in a win against Aracdia on Saturday, pitched gamely for the Eagles, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings of work. The crafty freshman right hander surrendered three of those runs came in the first 3 innings on a pair of bloop hits.
The Eastern offense came to life in the top of the 5th.
Jim Crowley reached base on an error for the 2nd time in the game, and
Mike Santello followed with a walk.
Matt Powell singled to load the bases for
Davis Murray. The Eastern shortstop slammed a bases loaded triple to tie the game and to plate his team leading 22nd RBI. The Eagles were unable to bring Murray home, and Catholic scored 2 more runs in their half of the 5th. That would hold up as the difference in the game.
The 5-3 loss ends a Eastern's three game winning streak, but represents a a positive trend toward solid starting pitching and good defense. Clouser's willingness and ability to take the ball and bounce back on short rest is a big positive for the Eagles, who will have a compact schedule upon returning from the Easter break.
Eastern returns to PAC action with a home doubleheader against Alvernia College on Monday.
