Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Can't Hold Off Cavs

In a late-season test for a team with post-season ambition, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse fell to Eagle-Road rival Cabrini College. The Cabrini offense exploded for fourteen straight goals to emerge with a 19-4 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference victory.

Eastern goalie Zach Rivest made eight of his 24 saves in the opening period, and the Eagles made a Nick Mandia unassisted tally stand until the break. Rivest did well on several long skipping shots and twice stood up Cabrini attackers at the edge of the crease, but the Eagles still had to play the final 45 minutes against the powerhouse Cabrini attack.

Casey Grogan scored four of his game high six goals in succession to erase the Eagle lead and put the visitors up 4-1 with six minutes to play in the half. The Cavaliers got a last minute goal from Matt Conaway to go up 5-1 at the break.

Cabrini broke the game open with eight third period goals. The Eagles struggled to win possession, and the Cavaliers were able to take advantage of a couple costly turnovers and man-up situations to increase their lead to 13-1.

The Eagles got a pair of Ben O'Donnell goals in the fourth to close things up a bit, and Kyle Dresser scored a late goal from O'Donnell to make the final 19-4. That goal could ultimately have bearing on the PAC playoff race as the Eagles await the outcome of the Shenandoah vs. Misericordia game this evening at Misericordia. Should the Cougars win, and the Eagles beat Immaculata on Saturday along with a Cabrini win over Shenendoah, the three teams would be tied at 4-3 in conference play, and then a series of tie-breakers come into play. Should Shenandoah beat Misericordia and the Eagles win on Saturday, the Eagles would take on Cabrini in their first PAC playoff game.
