Big First Half Lifts Field Hockey Past Aggies

Eastern University Field Hockey scored five first-half goals on the way to an 8-3 non-conference win over Delaware Valley College. Jaimie Heck scored a pair of goals and added two assists to lead the Eagle attack. Three other Eastern players scored two goals on the afternoon.

Lindsay Moyer helped the Eagles get going with an unassisted tally in the 11th minute. Ninety seconds later, Heck doubled the lead off a pass from Elya Troup. Kim Campbell scored in the 17th minute to push the Eastern advantage to three. Olivia Derr took another Troup assist to score the first of her two goals just 55 seconds later.

Heck ripped an outside shot for her second of the game in the 20th minute of the match to push the Eastern lead to 5-0. After a pair of lopsided wins in the PAC earlier in the team's last two games, the Eagles found themselves up against an Aggie squad that entered this afternoon's match at 8-4. The Aggie's struck back within the minute on a Lauren Lansberry strike.

After six goals in the opening twenty minutes, the game slowed, and both teams took care of things defensively to keep the score at 5-1 going into the break. Coach Azzarano said of her team's effort in the opening frame, "we have been working on some specific fundamentals, and that hard work is paying off. I was really pleased with our effort."

The Eagles got second-half goals from Moyer, Campbell and Derr to up their lead to 8-1 before the Aggies scored a pair of goals in the last six minutes of the match. The Eagles return to action against Rowan on Saturday.

Eastern and Delaawre Valley will be league opponents next fall when Eastern joins the MAC for all sports.
