Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Beats Misericordia For 2nd Seed

Both the Misericordia University Cougars and the Eastern University Eagles entered today's final PAC regular-season field hockey game with a single loss, and the winner would secure a first round bye and home field advantage for the second round.  The Eagles used a goal in each half to cap a dominating performance and win 2-0.

The Eagles earned 16 penalty corners in the first half, but were unable to finish on any of them. In the 18th minute of the match. Elya Troup finished a nice pass from Olivia Derr to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. As it turns out, that would be all the offense the Eagles would need. Eastern fired 21 shots in the opening half, and only 13 saves from Misericordia's Ellen Howanitz kept the lead at one.

Jaimie Heck doubled the Eastern advantage just over four minutes into the second half on a pass from Lindsay Moyer. The Eagles continued to pressure the Misericordia cage, but were unable to expand their advantage. For the game, the Eagles earned 21 penalty corners to just one for the Cougars, and they out-shot their visitors 31-3.

Kelly Garland made a single save in goal for the Eagles. Eastern travels west to Ohio to take on Kenyon in a fall Break match this weekend.
