The Softball Field

Eastern softball has played in the middle of campus for the entire history of the program. Eastern Athletics completely rebuilt the facility after massive flooding destroyed the infield of Eastern's Softball field in the fall of 2018. Construction delays and COVID meant the field would only see four games in 2019 and 2020, but the Eagles were able to host a full slate of games in 2021 and 2022.

While the field has always been in a perfect mid-campus location at the base of the Harold Howard Library, up until its reconstruction the infield sat in one of the lowest points of elevation on campus with both baselines between small bodies of water. A massive summer storm drove the water in McGraw Pond over its banks and the surge destroyed much of the fencing and pushed much of the infield dirt into the creek on the third base line.

The department elected to flip the infield to the opposite corner of the area and installed massive outfield drainage. The infield surface and outfield grass were both installed anew along with a premium netting system and new dugouts.

With a lengthy winter and the sod needing to fully knit, the Eagles played away until their second-to-last league series of 2019. On April 18, they hosted DeSales in the first game on the new facility.

The following season, the Eagles hosted Cabrini on Thursday after returning from spring break. That same day, the NCAA announced it was canceling the Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and the cancelation of spring sports across all divisions of the NCAA followed.

The following year, batting cages and bullpens were added to increase the productivity of practice sessions.

On May 2, 2021, Eastern hosted Messiah University in the first post-season game in the new field's history.Â
