Olson Field

Olson Field opened in October of 2005. The turf field is the home to Eastern's soccer and lacrosse teams and is at the heart of Eastern's athletic facilities.

The Field is named for Chip Olson '90 and is the only competition facility on Eastern's campus named for a benefactor. Olson played soccer for the Eagles and as the founder of Olson Research Group has supported Eastern athletics and was very instrumental in the funding for the conversion of the facility from a single grass field to a pair of turf fields.

While the creation of Olson Field was a huge benefit for Eastern's soccer programs, its creation was the foundation for the reintroduction of Men's Lacrosse. After two years without a varsity program, Eastern Athletics reintroduced Men's Lacrosse in 2006. Men's Lacrosse won a PAC Tournament game on the field in 2008 and claimed a MAC Championship with a 12-11 overtime win over Widener in 2012.

With a 3-0 win in the rain over Gwynedd Mercy on Oct. 8, 2005, Eastern Men's Soccer was the first team to win a game on the field. The rains from that day and the night before would likely have been enough to force a postponement of the Homecoming games, but with the turf installed and drainage working, the 2005 team picked up its 12th consecutive win. That team went on to win a PAC Championship on Olson Field and was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2016.

Eastern Women's Soccer dropped a 4-2 result to Stevens Institute of Technology on that first day, but enjoyed tremendous success at home in years to come. The Eagles went 18-1 at home and won a pair of league championships on the field in 2007 and 2008. The only blemish in that run was a 1-0 overtime loss to Messiah in 2007.

Eastern Women's Lacrosse also reaped the benefits of the new facility with three-straight league championships from 2006-'08. While the Eagles won all three PAC titles across the street at Cabrini, they went 21-4 over the first three seasons on the turf.

In the summer 2018, Olson Field was resurfaced to a more modern and durable turf. Eastern Men's Soccer again reaped the benefit with the a tremendously successful season. The Eagles finished 18-3-2, won a MAC Freedom Title, and advanced to the Round of 16 in in the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to having a beautifully constructed zero-grade surface, Olson Field enjoys an ideal location between Eastern's Gymnasium and several of the larger residence halls on campus. The grass hill below Gough Hall provides an ideal space for watching a game.

Team areas are all less than 50 feet from locker rooms.

Netting systems were upgraded in 2018.

In 2021, Padding was added to the retaining wall at the northeast corner of the field.Â
